Aldi has unveiled plans to invest more than £43 million to expand and upgrade its store network across Scotland. The investment includes opening two new locations in Bishopbriggs and Dumbarton in 2026, alongside improvements to several existing stores. The move comes as demand continues to grow for value-focused grocery retail. It signals strong confidence in the Scottish market.

Store growth and upgrades
Alongside new openings, Aldi will upgrade stores in Greenock, Perth, Linlithgow, Paisley, and Stirling. Enhancements will focus on improving the shopping experience, including expanded chilled food ranges and larger Specialbuys sections. These upgrades are aimed at handling higher customer volumes. The retailer is positioning its stores to support long-term growth.

Market position strengthens
Aldi’s expansion follows a strong performance in Scotland, where it recently became the country’s second-largest supermarket by volume. Worldpanel data shows around 60 million customer visits across Scottish stores in the past year. The milestone highlights Aldi’s growing appeal among consumers seeking quality at competitive prices. Analysts say scale is becoming a key advantage in the sector.

Local sourcing and communities
The retailer works with more than 90 Scottish suppliers and stocks over 450 locally made products. NFU Scotland has recognized Aldi as the leading supermarket for local sourcing, with 41% of products sourced domestically. This supports Scottish suppliers with hundreds of millions of pounds in sales. Aldi has also continued community support through sports funding and charitable donations.
